UPDATE

Hi everyone!  I know I haven't been blogging too much as of late but that is because I have been very busy.  Above is a quick pic just to show you some of what I have been doing.  This is a picture of some of my new summer wardrobe, which I must say I am very proud of.  It consists of lots of light weight dresses, tunics and pants and I love it all!  This is only a fraction of what I have been working on, not to mention custom work etc, etc.

But I have to tell you working on the above outfits has been GREAT for me.  I decided to take a small break to gain a little more sewing and design experience.  So I decided to just continually work on new pieces with different fabrics, new elements, new finishing techniques, pattern matching, bias sewing, self drafting and so much more and I feel like I have learned A LOT over the last few weeks.    I have gone outside of my comfort zone in hopes of becoming a better sewer and a better designer.   I have also been doing much more research into fashion trends, what was hot on the runways for spring 2010 as well as what is selling on a more practical level.  Because when my website finally does come out, I really want to wow everyone and I feel much more confident that I will be able to do just that when the time is right.

Trend spotting

I have been boning up on Spring 2010 fashion trends and I have to tell you ladies, it must be my year because, with the exception of the dreaded clog, I am loving what I am seeing.  Color, prints, nautical inspiration, loose pants, flowing dresses this list goes on and on and we are going to cover it all here.  First look,

Minimalism:

This clean and simple look never goes out of style but often times doesn't get the accolades it deserves for being timeless and stunning if done right.  I say do it Diane Kruger style, simple and elegant.

Next up,

Country Chic

If I am being honest I am not the biggest fan of this particular trend but I say if you are going to do it do it boldly.  Don't be too literal with it, play with pastoral shapes in modern prints shown in the two looks above.

Trend #3,

Polka Dots

Polka dots have always been a fun way to spice up ones wardrobe but think outside of the box by incorporating the trend into your shoes and jewelry as well.

Trend # 4

Military Inspired

I say if you are going to do military inspired this summer keep it flirty and feminine.  Pair a military inspired jacket with a flowing skirt and cami or a military inspired shirt dress with a strappy heal and leather belt and lots of jewelry .

On to the next one,

Prints

Summer 2010 is all about being bold so don't be afraid to be a little over the top with say an allover printed jumpsuit as shown in the first picture.  Or if you want to tone it down a short little number like the one pictured in the third photo is always a good choice!

But I say try pairing two different prints as shown in the Dries Van Noten and Proenza Schouler collections.  And since ethnic and tribal prints are huge this year try pairing different prints of the like.

Trend spotting # 6,

Nautical

I have always loved the nautical look.  Clean lines and crisp summer white, there is almost no way you can get this look wrong...unless you start wearing gold anchors all over your clothes.  Try to keep the look simple break up the look with a pair of skinny jeans or a crisp white short.

Its baaack,

Underwear as Outterwear

There are many ways one can get this look wrong, don't go all Madonna circa 1993.   Use silks and lace to spice up a nice summer suit or pair a lace or silk tank with a pair of shorts and heels, throw on a while blazer to complete the look.

Trend # 8,

Harem Pants

I could not be happier that harem pants are making a comeback!  I have always loved them but unfortunately MC Hammer made them garment non grata for a few years.  But they are back and better than ever!  However, they may not be for everyone so if you unlike me do not love this look just go for a loose fitting pant in a drapey cotton this summer.

Hope you enjoyed this trend update!  I will be back with more trend spotting in August for fall 2010's latest styles.

Until then, TTYL,

Get Inspired

In honour of my birthday (mmm hmm, that is honour with a U.  I am feeling very British today!) my get inspired post is all about fantasy.  That world of whimsy we slip into every so often where all of our day to day problems disappear.

So my fantastically fantastical fantasy for today is Princess Devon of some far away island where it is always a beautiful 80 degrees and my palace overlooks my own private beach.  On that private beach will be a little white tent set up with two little round tables each with place settings for five. There I will have a tea party with all of by best girlfriends (because I really do love tea very much), and this lovely tea party will be followed by an evening soiree on the beach.  Complete with a live band and one hundred of my closest friends where I will throw my head back in laughter every so often just to show everyone how fabulous I still am at thirty-two *smile*.    Nice one, right?

So....what inspires you?
